The lab provides an intensely research-focused environment which helps to attract a steady stream of high quality Postdoctoral Fellows, visiting researchers, PhD, Masters and honours students and there is an excellent history of research student retention and international collaboration.
A major research area of speech processing is voice biometrics, and in particular the analyses and detection of spoofing attacks on voice biometric systems.
Speaker verification and voice biometric based security systems are likely to be more commonplace in the near future with applications ranging from daily and mundane, such as smartphones, smart homes, and computer games, to critical, such as security systems for tele-finance and access control to rooms and safes.
There is an urgent need for developing an adaptive intelligent deep learning based speech processing system that will lead to a first line of defence against speech based attacks on the next generation of voice based systems.
