BiographyNicholas Cummins Nick Cummins is a fourth year PhD student in the School of Electrical Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and National ICT Australia (NICTA). Using speech processing and machine learning, he is investigating whether the voice can be used as an objective marker in the diagnosis and monitoring of clinical depression. He will be completing his thesis in September 2015. He has published regularly in the field of depression detection since 2011; these papers have attracted significant attention and citations. He led the 2nd ranked team in the AVEC2013 Depression Challenge and was a member of the 2nd ranked team in the AVEC2014 Depression Challenge. He did his undergraduate degree at UNSW as a mature student, graduating with first class honors in 2011.
